Building Christian Character through Daily Scripture Reading

by admin ~ September 23rd, 2009

Picture 005“Wherever that Gospel goes, it produces Christian character, and develops it, as it had done in your own case (the case of the Colossians) from the time you first heard and realized the amazing fact of God’s grace.” (Colossians 1:6)

“So you will understand that since we heard about you we have never missed you in our prayers. We are asking God that you may see things, as it were, from His point of view by being given spiritual insight and understanding. We also pray that your outward lives, which men see, may bring credit to your Master’s name, and that you may bring joy to His heart by bearing genuine Christian fruit, and that your knowledge of God may grow yet deeper.” (Colossians 1:9-10)

These words provide a foundational pillar for spending time daily in the Bible, the Word of God. Especially consider, “and that your knowledge of God may grow yet deeper,” as it describes one of the foundational pillars of the Paul’s Primers ministry—to help each one of us grow ever deeper in the understanding of God. Why? That we might continue to bear genuine Christian fruit, including an ever deepening love for both God, who is indeed Jesus Christ, and one another. And again I say, Why? Because, according to our Lord through the inspired pen of the Apostle Paul, wherever the knowledge of the Gospel goes, it produces Christian character, and develops it, even as it had done in the case of these Colossians from the time they first heard it, and realized… the amazing fact of God’s grace.

You see, it is not a mindless thing we do when we participate in Daily Scripture Reading; instead, it is the very means by which we build and develop within, our Christian character. A character that in truth, the more it develops, brings to bear upon our hearts and minds the amazing fact of God’s grace.

The story of the Bible is nothing, if it is not the captivating story of the wondrous love and grace of God. Our prayer is that God’s wondrous love more and more captivates your heart, and even all those calling on the name of Jesus Christ—the only name under heaven by which we can be saved.
