Why You Can't Learn Religion!
One of the fundamental concepts that most religious teaching experts miss is the concept of learning how to do religion. That is, the difference between religion and spirituality.
In fact Divinity programs and other formalized ways of learning religion totally miss this point. They don't understand the difference between religion and spirituality.
You can’t ‘learn’ religion.
This is the fundamental reason that so many people fail in religion both within themselves and with their families.
So how do you actually ‘learn’ religion?
The only way to ‘learn’ religion is to ‘do’ religion.
The emphasis must be on the doing. As much as it is critical that you know how to translate your faith into real world application so that you understand how to create and build the most powerful Christendom ever, it is as equally important that you know how to implement at the same time.
If you examine the research of Edgar Dale (Just Google ‘Cone Of Learning’ and click on images) you will see that his research was cutting edge as being the first to reveal that no true learning happens by listening, watching or reading (the regular church world activities).
Real time learning happens when you ‘do’—and when you ‘do’ in the context of mentorship or discipleship. This is the difference between religion and spirituality.
Here is a reality check—a little test if you will—to see how close to operating as a religious Kingdom builder you really are—especially in today’s highly competitive world that demands that you know how to accelerate the right action steps at the correct time:
1. You are NOT really serious about religion until you understand that religion is about doing in the context of working with a religious mentor. How much longer are you going to fool yourself into thinking that doing religion means reading books, watching DVDs or listening to audio programs like your local Sunday church service?
2. Point #1 doesn’t mean that I am against reading books, listening to audio programs or watching DVDs. The key in doing religion is that you integrate your learning immediately into a new context of Kingdom building that will assure that your ideas are practical and generating immediate dividends in the real world of your family, business and political sphere. (What’s the test of a great religious idea? Simple! Is it making you a Kingdom building powerhouse—right now and NOT tomorrow.)
3. The ‘doing’ part of religion involves you absorbing religious concepts and practicing them in real time. One of the concepts I teach my students at Paul's Primers Academy is to create their knowing and doing programs at the same time with a proprietary system that focuses on knowing how to embed religion inside of their daily lives. My mantra with my students is this: “Educate to participate in the single greatest dominating force holding sway over both heaven and earth, the present Kingdom of God”. In order to do this you need to know how to execute faster than the enemies of Christ. It is the area of executing powerful implementation plans that real religious growth and spiritual victory is developed.
Pure and simple, real religion is about knowing how to implement your religion, personally and globally, strategically and in real time. True Kingdom building is about integrating faith and works into an educational model that allows you to trump any and all high sounding yet vain philosophies of the enemies of Christ.
