"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." The Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 1:7

*****

It is toward this manifestation of the true power, love, and sound mind of Jesus Christ — in the lives of their students and parishioners — to which the Church of Christ's Glory strives.

It's as simple as this… without this full gospel of the Kingdom, you remain easily victimized through the guilt and shame preached by those insisting that we are still “under a curse” and still “waiting for Christ”.

Once a believer embraces the historic message of the full gospel of the Kingdom (this message of fulfillment as preached in the church, to one degree or another, for some 1900 years), and realizes the curse is lifted and their hearts are not desperately wicked, nor their bodies something to fear as associated with sin, they become truly free… and the mystic nature of Christianity becomes for them what it was for the Apostles, real and applicable in their daily lives.

YES–How you view the past and the future directly impacts the way you live in the present. If you believe that Christ failed to complete His work and ultimate victory by Satan is inevitable on this earth, can you truly be motivated to live in Victory? Only the full gospel of the Kingdom provides the necessary hope regarding both past and future to empower you not only in the next life, but in this life as well!

Highland, MI, USA The gospel of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ can manifest its true power in your daily life only when understood in its full three-part nature: 1) The Cross; 2) The Harrowing of Hell; and 3) The Resurrection.

preterism paul rakowicz

To get a sense of the power of that middle third of the gospel (and its ultimate implications regarding the full gospel of the Kingdom), see here a fresco (originating around 1063 AD) of a standard Eastern Christian image originating from the earliest times and known in English as the Harrowing of Hell (the Plundering or Pillaging of Hell).

In the Anastasis fresco you see Jesus descended into Hell directly after the cross. You see him drawing forth from their bonds Adam and Eve; King David, Solomon, and John the Baptist; even a whole host of men representative of all humankind. And you see crushed beneath His feet the gates of Hell, along with Death and Satan—bound and defeated at His conquering victorious entrance unto Satan's once dark throne.

For more, hearken back to the teaching of the early church regarding this time "in the tomb"; this time between the cross and the resurrection:

Christ not merely opened, but broke in pieces the gates of Hell (Psalm 107:16), in order to make the prison useless; where there is neither door, nor bar, whosoever enters is not detained.

What God destroys, who can set up again? Earthly kings indeed set free prisoners, yet leave untouched the prison gates; but Christ broke in pieces the gates of Hell.

Christ went to the utterly black and joyless portion of Hell, and turned it into Heaven, transferring all its wealth, the race of man, into His royal treasury.

In this, too, Christ surpasses kings, for they send messengers, but He went in person to set the captives free.

So the Apostle Peter says (see 1 Peter 3:19, 4:6; Acts 2:27,31): 'Our Lord, when He was in Hell, set free all who were kept prisoners by death.' (You can also see the same said by all the Apostles such as John in Revelation 20:1-6, and even by Jesus Himself in John 5:25,28)

St. John Chrysostom (c. 347 – 407), Archbishop of Constantinople and the "Man with the Golden Tongue — the Greatest Preacher in the History of the Church!"

Now, back to our day and the modern church: Sadly, it is this middle portion of the gospel of the Kingdom (this Harrowing of Hell) that is being suppressed in the modern church. And this failure to teach the full gospel of the Kingdom has led to the new theologies that are bringing ruin upon today's Christians — and making the manifestation of the true power of Christ in your daily life an utter impossibility!

Granted, the more conservative members of the modern church continue to preach the cross and the resurrection — a credit to them and that which allows for the saving of at least some of God's people. Nevertheless, it is their complete loss of touch with the glorious victory won by Christ during those 3 days "in the tomb" that has rendered even these conservative icons of the church powerless! Is not the church crumbling? Indeed, Christians are losing their position of influence across the globe!

Authentic Christianity IS Early Church Preterism

"I need now only say, all these things have been done : the old and elementary system passed away with a great noise : all these predicted empires have actually fallen, and the new kingdom, the new heaven and earth, the new Jerusalem — all of which were to descend from God, to be formed by His power, have been realized on earth." Eusebius (c. 265 – 340), Bishop of Caesarea and "Father of Church History"

Remember, this message of fulfillment, as demonstrated here by Eusebius, has been preached in the church, in one form or another depending on the time and place, for 18 Centuries!

It is only in the past century, from around 1900 forward, that the Church has stopped teaching the doctrines of the past fulfillment of so many prophecies, and began looking toward the future for all these things to be fulfilled.

What is the specific character of Early Church Preterism?

  • Its outward character is built upon the eschatological (end times) realization that 70 AD was indeed the end of time.
  • Its inward character is determined by its conception of redemption thru Christ within the sphere of belief in the Kingdom of God.
  • In other words, the cross is everything as both redemption and the Kingdom came to us through the cross at the very same time.

In Early Church Preterism the death of Jesus has its significance for believers, not in itself,  but as the event in which the realization of the Kingdom of God begins.

For the Early Church, believers are redeemed by entering already, thru union with Christ, by means of a mystical dying and rising again with Him during the continuance of the natural world-era into a supernatural state of existence, this state being that which they are to possess fully in the Kingdom of God after passing from this life to the next.

Thru Christ we are removed out of this world and transferred into the state of existence proper to the Kingdom of God, notwithstanding the fact that we remain yet citizens of this earthly realm.

This is the fundamental idea of the concept of redemption, which the Early Church understood by the aid of the thought-forms of a fully functional Preterism (the past fulfillment of end-times events).

Since the transformation of the world into the Kingdom of God begins for the Early Church with the death of Christ, the unscriptural pharasitical belief which looked to a redemption only to be realized on the earth in a future physical kingdom is transformed into its fulfilled and proper state–the belief in a redemption which is already present, even though it is only to be completely realized after one passes into Heaven.

A faith of the present arises within the faith of the future.

That is, understanding the "form" of the end of time and beginning of eternity that fully came to pass in Christ's generation, provides meaning and power to its "function" in every proceeding generation. Even our present day.

The Early Church understood this! 'Tis why we see that it connects the expectation of the Kingdom and of the redemption to  be realized in it with the coming and the death of Jesus, in such a way that belief in redemption and in the Spiritual Kingdom into which we pass after this earthly life become so intertwined as to make the believer a part of the communion of saints even while yet present in this earthly realm.

Yes, the Early Church correctly understands belief in Jesus as the coming of the Christ, and correctly comprehends this coming in the context of full preterism, and preaches this only true and authentic Christian faith so thoroughly that faith in Christ becomes freed from its temporal bounds and becomes valid for all time. Solving in definitive fashion the greatest question of the faith–the coming of Christ and the nature of His eternal Kingdom.

Resolving as well the question of whether or not those redeemed by Christ are to withdraw from the world… the answer… of course not, for the Early Church walked in lockstep with the Lord Jesus and the Apostles on this question as well; she bids you take your place in the world, that you may make use of the powers derived from your being in the Kingdom of God!

Extraordinary realism resulting in a marvelously practical faith generating powerful real world results!

Results obtained through the administration of God's Law on earth by the saints (men and women of Christian faith) who understand that their redemption and salvation are complete through our Lord's implementation of His Kingdom on Good Friday so many years ago.

Indeed, this is how we fulfill our calling as proclaimed in verse 10 of Revelation 5 which tells us that Jesus Christ has made us unto our God kings and priests; and we shall reign on the earth!

And this is what the Early Church perfectly exemplifies thru its doctrine… and its doctrines natural offspring known to history as the Byzantine Empire—that first empire of Christendom that laid the groundwork for all proceeding generations.

Early Church Preterism is authentic Christianity; its essential feature, the inner connection between the concept of redemption thru Christ and a living belief in the Kingdom of God, is a possession for Christians of all times and place.1

LIVING ON EARTH SINCE THE COMPLETION OF THE PAROUSIA (the practical application of Christianity in your everyday life generated by the Grace which provides you salvation through faith alone; remember the words of James 2:26 "Yes, faith without works is as dead as a body without a spirit."):

Remember the following parable of our Lord when considering your state and resolve to not be like one of these, but instead to fill your heart and mind with the sublime teaching of Christ as outlined below… "Now when the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks throughout dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, I will return into my house from where I came: and when he is come, he finds it empty, swept clean and made ready. Then he goes, and takes unto him seven other spirits worse than himself, and they enter in, and dwell there: and the end of that man is worse than the beginning." Matthew 12:43-45a

Again, and none of us can be reminded of this too much! To make certain you do not end up like the man in our Lord's parable, check your life against these mission critical tasks for living the Christian life. These are things not only to understand, but to practice. Things not only to believe, but to implement in your life!
Here is a simple truth: You will live in freedom in God's law; or you will live enslaved to man's law.

RELIGION / WORSHIP:

Religion is the duty we owe to the Creator and the manner in which we fulfill this duty. Each individual is called to daily worship thru a life lived in the Spirit. Assembling together in love each Sunday is right and proper as corporate worship is a part of right living within the body of Christ.

PRAYER:

Prayer builds our relationship with our Lord and God Jesus Christ. Prayer is quiet conversation with God. Always be in prayer and you will always be with God.

MORAL PURITY:

It is good to pursue a life of robust character that will result more and more in the moral purity of both body and mind. Living in God's Law through the power of Christ's redeeming Grace will provide the means for building such a life. Consider the words of the Lord from the book of Proverbs: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the counsel of saints is understanding: for to know the law is the character of a sound mind." (Proverbs 9:10 LXX)

THE LAW OF LIBERTY (the basics of fulfilled New Testament Law which provide the foundational "works" that will coincide with a believers "faith"; remember the words of our Lord in John 14:15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments."):

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (summarized as "Love God" and "Love Your Neighbor As Yourself"):

I am the Lord Jesus thy God,

  1. Thou shalt have no other gods besides me

  2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, nor likeness of any thing

  3. Thou shalt not bow down to them nor serve them

  4. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain

  5. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it Holy

  1. Honor thy father and thy mother

  2. Thou shalt not murder

  3. Thou shalt not adulterate

  4. Thou shalt not steal

  5. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor

    THE BEATITUDES:

From the lips of our Savior Himself,

  1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

  2. Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

  3. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

  4. Blessed are they which hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.

  5. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

  1. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

  2. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.

  3. Blessed are they which suffer persecution for righteousness sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

THE HOLY DAYS (building community within the body of Christ):

From the teaching of our Lord and God, Jesus the Christ,

  1. Sunday Sabbath (the "Lord's Day"), weekly celebration of Jesus Christ

  2. The New Month (the "new moon"), monthly celebration of God as the creator

  3. Maundy Thursday/Good Friday, annually in the spring

  4. Holy Saturday, annually in the spring

  5. Resurrection Sunday, annually in the spring

  6. Whitsunday, annually in the spring 50 days after Holy Saturday

  7. Advent, annually in the fall

  8. Judgment Day, annually in the fall

  9. The Parousia, annually in the fall

THE SACRAMENTS (building community within the body of Christ):

From the teaching of our Lord and God, Jesus the Christ,

  1. Baptism

  2. Communion

  3. Confirmation

  4. Matrimony

  5. Holy Orders Within The Priesthood of All Believers

ISRAEL:

The coming of the Christ ended the need for physical genealogies as He was the end thereof. This is why the genealogies of Scripture end with Him. Further, there is no "replacement" theology in Scripture; there is simply a fulfilling of Scripture in Christianity as members of both the Old Testament Israel and the Old Testament Gentiles entered into the Kingdom prior to 70 AD–becoming together the New Testament Israel.

Faith in Christ as God alone makes you a Son of God and thereby a true member of this New Testament Israel of God.

As says Peter of these Sons of God: "It is you who believe in Him, that He is precious, but to those who disobey God, it is true that: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone'; And He is, to them, 'a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense'. Yes, they stumble at the Word of God for in their hearts they are unwilling to obey it–which makes stumbling a foregone conclusion. But you are God's "chosen race", His "royal priesthood", His "holy nation", His "peculiar people"–all the old titles of God's people now belong to you. It is for you now to demonstrate the goodness of Him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. In the past you were not "a people" at all: but now you are the people of God! In the past you had no experienced of His mercy, but now it is intimately yours!"  (1 Peter 2:7-10).

APOSTOLIC DOCTRINES:

There is one source of ultimate Truth, the Word of God. Therefore if God's word differs from man made creeds, it is God's word upon which we posit our faith. With this said, add to this the realization that the early church does provide the truest guide posts for each generations understanding of Scripture; this is why it is good and right to study the best and brightest of the early church.

THE FOLLOWING COVERS

TWO HOT ISSUES IN CHRISTIANITY TODAY

FROM AN EARLY CHURCH PRETERIST VIEWPOINT

*****

Noah's Flood According To The Early Church

The Church of Christ's Glory teaches the simple truth of Scripture as it was also taught by the Early Church, that Noah's Flood was global, not local, and only the eight souls in the Ark (Noah and his family) were brought safely through the flood.

The following information comes from the book Creationism and the Early Church by Robert I. Bradshaw:

Writer Date Local Global Reference

Philo c.20BC-c.AD50   X Abraham, 41-44
Josephus AD37/38-100   X Antiquities, 1.3.4 (1.89)
Justin Martyr c.100-c.175   X Dialogue, 138
Theophilus of Antioch Wrote c.180   X Autolycus, 3.18-19
Tertullian c.160-c.225   X Pallium, 2; Women, 3
Gregory of Nanzianzus 330-390   X 2nd Theol. Orat. 18
John Chrysostom 374-407   X Genesis, 25.10
Augustine of Hippo 354-430   X City 15.27

The evidence from the early church summarized in the above table is fairly conclusive. It was the unanimous opinion of the early Christian writers who wrote on the subject that Noah’s Flood was a global event. In this the fathers cannot be said to be simply parroting the commonly held views of contemporary culture, because many used it to counter the local flood view which was held by all the Greek philosophers (except Xenophanes c.560 – c. 478 BC).

Philo of Alexandria understood Noah’s Flood to be universal, covering all the mountains, islands and continents, destroying all animals and men outside of the ark. However, some of the phrases he uses are regarding the extent of the Flood are ambiguous. He writes, for example, that the flood “…extended almost beyond the pillars of Hercules and the great Mediterranean Sea, since the whole earth and all the spaces of the mountains were covered with water…”

Even Davis Young, who believes that the Flood was local, concedes that the phrase used meant that the flood was “tantamount to being universal.” This tells us more about Philo’s limited understanding of the size of the earth than anything else. Philo was emphatic that the Flood was anthropologically universal, and destroyed all plants, animals and buildings. The roots and seeds of the plants were not destroyed because they were below the surface of the earth and the Lord promised only to destroy what was on “the face of the earth.”

Theophilus of Antioch (for example) rejected Plato’s argument that Noah’s Flood was local and restricted to the plains, leaving the mountains uncovered. He maintained that it was universal and that only eight people were saved in an Ark, built at God’s command. The Flood would never be repeated. Theophilus accounts for the name Deucalion (the equivalent of Noah in the Greek account of the Flood) by means of a word study:

…Noah, when he announced to the men then alive that there was a flood coming, prophesied to them, saying, Come thither, God calls you to repentance. On this account he was fitly called Deucalion.” [Deucalion, from Deute, “come” andkaleo, “I call”]

The Age Of The Earth According To The Early Church

The Church of Christ's Glory teaches the simple truth of Scripture as it was also taught by the Early Church, that the age of the earth is not millions or billions of years, but rather something less than 10,000 years old.

While summarizing the teaching of the Early Church on this subject is easy, the actual detail underlying this summary is more complex. If you want to read more in depth on this topic of the age of the earth and the early church you can do so on the Internet for free on many different websites.

COCG specifically teaches the understanding of Scripture regarding creation and the age of the earth. Our book The Pearl even goes into great depth regarding the specific events unfolding during the six 24 hour days of creation. You can order a copy through our website by clicking HERE.
