Jesus and the Dangers of Holiday TV
by admin ~ December 21st, 2009
Watching TV is a dangerous adventure at any time of year–but especially during the Christmas season!
How so? The Christmas “specials” on TV!
Don’t take your Theology from the folks on TV at the various “educational” channels…
If you do, you’ll not believe in the Jesus of the Bible. For the Jesus of the Bible is nothing like the Jesus described on the education / history / discovery channel I just watched.
Now, you are probably asking yourself, “where is this coming from?” Well, let me tell you; I just finished watching this show about Jesus on one of these channels, and it started with this statement: “this is the story of the real Jesus Christ.” A statement which it soon became apparent was as far from the truth as the east is from the west; indeed, there was nothing at all in the show to back up such a bold statement.
I was left marveling at how far we have come from the glorious faith of the Early Church–how far we have come from the Early Church understanding that Jesus Christ was God Incarnate.
How terrifying it is that now so many make Him out to be but a man; a man, no less, struggling to find Himself in this world. This was the premise of the cable channel feature. I dare say, the Early Church Fathers would have described such talk as nothing less than blasphemy.
I am left with this plea: please, as you open your hearts this Christmas season to worship in the light of the Kingdom of God (brought to us by God Himself Jesus Christ), don’t take your theology from such features as found on such television channels. Or any others providing similar fare.
Instead, open your Bibles, and read the Word, and let the Spirit of God guide you into all truth.
Here is a simple rule to follow: Anything you ever see that even hints at Jesus Christ not being God; or not knowing He was always absolutely God, absolutely God from cradle to grave; just run… and I mean run for your life!
The basis of our whole Christian faith is that Jesus Christ IS God!
Don’t let anyone take this simple truth from you.
It really doesn’t matter how many degrees someone has, or how powerful they are such that they can get their message on TV. The simple truth will always remain that Jesus Christ never changes–Jesus Christ is, always has been, and always will be, the only true God.
With this, I bid you good night and a Merry Christmas! Do celebrate the Christ’s Mass (this is not a Catholic reference) in Spirit and Truth.
Well, that’s all for today. . . If you are already walking daily with us through the New Testament–we trust God is blessing your time in His Word and that you are enjoying our 10 part Christmas series. If you are not already enrolled, but you would like to be, you can join us by enrolling here: DSR Teaching Service. No matter your choice, please remember in the meantime to keep yourself in the Word!
And remember to show forth the love of God in someone’s life today!
