SUMMARY OF GOD’S LAW : The Ten Commandments : The Beatitudes

The Ten Commandments: I Am the Lord Jesus Christ thy God

I.         Thou shalt have no other gods beside me

II.       Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, nor likeness of any thing

III.     Thou shalt not bow down to them nor serve them

IV.      Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain

V.        Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it Holy

VI.      Honor thy father and thy mother

VII.    Thou shalt not murder

VIII.  Thou shalt not adulterate

IX.      Thou shalt not steal

X.        Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy brother

* Jesus Christ is the name of the Lord thy God–He is the one and only visible manifestation of the triune God.

* Sunday is the Sabbath day of the New Creation which you must keep holy.

* Thou shalt not covet (be it lusting after other god’s or other peoples things!) is a summary of the first five, for our Lord tells us through the Apostle Paul that coveting is idolatry, the domain of the first five commandments: “ … and covetousness, which is idolatry.” (Colossians 3:5)

And so, the essence of these commandments amongst the body of believers is such:

1. Do not be angry, but live at peace with all men who are your brothers.

2. Do not adulterate, and do not indulge yourself in inappropriate sexual gratification.

3. Do not promise anything on oath to anyone.

4. Do not resist evil, do not judge and do not go to law with any of your brothers.

5. Make no distinction amongst the nations of Christendom, but love the sons of Christ who are foreigners as your own people.

———————————————–

And all these commandments are contained in one: All that you wish your brothers to do to you, do you unto them.

————————————————

Or, as is it is often said: Amongst the body of believers: Do unto others as you wish to have done unto you.

————————————————

Or, even more simply: Amongst the body of believers: Love one another…
